About Dr. Annie Neisen
Movement has always been my go-to pathway to taking care of myself and staying grounded.
Always being interested in the human mind and body, and feeling an innate need to search for answers as to why we are how we are, Annie sought and received a BA in Psychology from the University of MN in 2008. Along with 20+ years of managing her own injuries and participating in physical therapy as a patient, she received her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Columbia University in 2013. Annie has 15 years of traditional physical therapy training and experience, including extensive manual therapy coursework through IPA, pelvic health education through Herman and Wallace, and training in visceral mobilization from the Barral Institute. In 2023 she became a Board-Certified Women’s Health Specialist through the American Physical Therapy Association.
Wanting to become a more well-rounded therapist to assist her patients with pelvic conditions, in 2023, she became a Certified Holistic Sex Educator from Institute for Sex Education and Enlightenment. She is a yoga guide and longtime yoga practitioner. Annie has trained in breathwork both as a client and in teacher trainings. Annie is a lifelong learner and forever curious.
Philosophy
“A relaxed body is a strong body”
My approach in life is to move through it with as much ease as I can. This carries over into my treatment approach by looking to the body for what it needs, so we can accomplish your goals with as much ease as possible and in a shorter amount of visits. This will allow us to address the body as a whole, by looking at the nervous system, viscera, and musculoskeletal system to see what may be driving your symptoms. I believe in looking not only as the body as a whole, but at the person as a whole. This may include addressing sleep, stress, diet, and social health, or other factors that may be contributing to your symptoms and limiting your function.
Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect from physical Therapy?
We will begin discussing your symptoms, your medical history and any concerns you may have. Then a thorough physical assessment will be performed to figure out where symptoms are coming from, so we can best decide where to begin treatment. The physical assessment will include looking at range of motion, movement assessment and mobility, diagnostic testing, and strength testing. If applicable, we will perform a pelvic floor muscle assessment. From there, treatment may consist of specific hands on treatments, neuromuscular re-education, therapeutic exercises and a home program.
How long will my treatment last?
This answer will depend on the individual, and can range widely. Treatment course will depend on patient’s symptoms, their goals, chronicity of the condition, and financial situation. The plan of care will be discussed in the first visit, and will be an on-going discussion throughout your care. Each visit is 50 minutes, and typical frequency of visits is 1 time per week. My goal as a provider is to get you feeling better in as few visits as possible, and give you tools to manage your symptoms without relying on my care.
